Beshear wants Clinton to be Obama's running mate

FRANKFORT — Gov. Steve Beshear and state Democratic Party officials Jennifer Moore and Nathan Smith are going to vote for Barack Obama for their party's presidential  nominee at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, and Beshear wants Hillary Clinton to be Obama’s running mate.

Beshear released this statement today regarding questions about how they would vote as superdelegates.

“For the last several months Democrats across the nation have engaged in a spirited contest for our party’s presidential nomination.  That contest is now over.  Sen. Obama now has enough delegates and will be the Democratic nominee for president.

“Sen. Clinton has run a great campaign and carried Kentucky handily in its primary.  She has accepted the results of our process and will be endorsing Sen. Obama shortly.  She realizes, as we do, that it is time for Democrats to come together to win back the presidency this fall.

“Democratic Party Chair Jennifer Moore, Democratic Party Vice Chair Nathan Smith and I will follow Sen. Clinton’s lead and will be casting our votes for Sen. Obama at our Democratic National Convention in Denver.

“We need to put forth the strongest possible ticket this fall.  Therefore, I have written personal letters to both Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton, urging Sen. Obama to select Sen. Clinton as his running mate and urging Sen. Clinton to accept any such offer.  In my opinion, such a ticket would be unbeatable.”

The Bush-Clinton era is over.

A Barack Obama/BILLARY Clinton ticket will be a NIGHTMARE for OBAMA and a SURE LOSER for the ticket!

I suspect Obama is WAY TOO SMART to entertain the thought!!

This is called covering your butt

JurisDoctor is right on this one, and as usual, Beshear is dead wrong. For Obama to talk so much about change, and to then invite a Clinton to be on his ticket would be political suicide. I guarantee there will not be a Bush on McCain's ticket.

Why would Beshear send letters to Clinton and Obama, like they even care what he thinks. He does some of the dumbest things, like they are some kind of grand gesture, when in fact they make him look silly and stupid, and even more irrelevant than he is.

As we have just seen, nobody is ever a sure loser or a sure winner this early in any political contest, and as much as I would like to see an Obama/Clinton ticket, I fear that she and Bill would not truly embrace that role. If they could, if they could muster that selflessness, I would greatly appreciate it, but I doubt they can. And further, I agree; we are witnessing a CYA moment from three of our superdelegates who would not commit until that point in time when there were few local political consequences.

I hope that she does not take the spot. She has more to offer than that role will allow.

We had eight years of peace and prosperity from 1992 - 2000 and a reduction of the federal debt. Things are much, much worse now and I doubt that Sen. Obama, as president, will take the kinds of tough economic steps that Pres. Clinton did. Her counsel will fall on deaf ears. She needs to chart an independent course for the next four years.

There is and was only a paper thin difference between Barack & Hillary's plans ... paper thin. Meaning, since Hillary had the same economic, domestic, foreign policy ideas as Barack, they BOTH have the same ability to get those measures passed through Congress.

I think Barack has already proven HE HAS the support to get his policies through Congress and national democrats, including Hillary Clinton, support and endorse Barack and will fight to get Obama elected so that his (and her) ideas CAN become a reality.

There is a huge difference between McCain's plans & Barack's plans. If either of you think voting for McCain will give Hillary justice you are both wrong. McCain supports warrantless wiretapping, no end to the Iraq war, Bushes failed economic policy, Bushes failed foreign policy, McCain voted AGAINST the GI Bill that Sen. Webb of Virginia proposed last week - which passed without McCain, McCain is FOR the sales of assault weapons - not the type of gun used to hunt with, McCain thinks Alito is the best Supreme Court Justice & there will be 2 openings during the next presidency, McCain is AGAINST a woman's right to chose.

Justice for Hillary will be to get HER ideas (which are the SAME as Barack's ideas) passed so that ALL of America can reap from those ideas. Which is why Hillary said today to vote for Barack Obama if you believe in those ideas.

There is a process all candidates for Presidents go through in picking VP - Barack has already begun that process with the help of Caroline Kennedy.

Remember, Barack has the same support Hillary would have had if she had won ... Barack will accomplish the same exact things Hillary would have ...

UNITED WE STAND ...

Wwhy no poll numbers for Obama with Clinton as VP vs McCain and the guy he is floating? I would like to know if the dream team numbers add up to a big Dem victory... We (Dems) need to win BIG because that will help the legislative candidates. I do not think the country can take much more Republican debt on without going completely broke. It is time to pay the Bush bills.

Hillary would be an asset to the ticket - especially as VP. As VP the right wing that wanted to run against Hillary as the presidential candidate can't focus. All that baggage is diffused because the right/Republicans have to deal with Obama simultaneously. And all the advantages of experience offered by the former first couple to the new President Obama can be played up and against the old '90s broadcasting about whitewater, travelgate, vince foster that you KNOW the Rush Limpballs of the world wanted to recycle. T.S.

Bill, yes we did want to run against Hillary until Obama came along. You all couldn't have served up a better opponent. Rev. "GD America" Wright, Weather Underground William "We didn't do enough" Ayers, now there's Tony Rezko, his airhead wife Michelle "For the first time in my adult life I'm proud of this country" and if that "whitey" tape surfaces ....

The problem is that McCain is too stupid to use those things, and when the smart Republicans who realize this stuff is killer do try to use it, he reprimands them. The RNC will probably take their cues from him so unfortunately the Republicans won't have their campaign engine running on all 8 cylinders this fall.

Me, I'd have a photo of Obama with Wright and "GD America, GD America," playing in an endless loop for 60 seconds and I'd put that ad in heavy rotation from now till November. You don't sit in the church of someone who spews such anti-American rhetoric for 20 years and not absorb some of it by osmosis.

Commenter, even if you didn't absorb it, why in the world would you keep sitting there?!

I agree with you.

http://www.peasantville.com/the_peasantville_blog/2008/03/mccain-and-hage.html

We can take turns with your Wright and my Hagee.

Then we can play Keating 5 over and over and over.

Then there's the Myanmar lobbyist and all the other lobbyists in McCain's campaign.

Let's not leave out the rich wife and how he dumped his first wife.

Ahhh - the smell of napalm is in the air.

You are truly a disgusting individual, Adkins. Have you ever really smelled napalm? John McCain has. He has also smelled his own blood, as he bled for you.

The trivia you try to smear McCain with pales in comparison to his tremendous accomplishments. And, there is nothing in his judgment or experience that compares to Obama's deciding to stay in Wright's church for 20 years, no matter how much you try to deflect attention away from that huge problem. Few people will buy your weak attempt to justify Obama's poor judgment by saying, "Oh yeah, but McCain did this and this" You sound like a whining playground bully.

In the interest of full disclosure, Adkins, did you tell your readers of your nasty little blog that McCain has rejected Hagee's comments and endorsement?

McCain did not belong to Hagee's church. And, Hagee actually apologized for his remarks, something that Obama's pastor for 20 years has refused to do!

Totally apples and oranges, Adkins. You would like to erase Obama's critically poor judgment in the choice of his church. Unfortunately, he cannot undo or just explain away a 20 year bad choice. This is a serious problem for Obama with millions of loyal Americans.

We could always sign up Ted Sampley in that Swift Boat Model you all used against Kerry. It's not like you honor veterans, whiner. The treatment of Kerry proves that. And Ted Sampley was good enough for Bush to use -- he did so in 2000 when he attacked McCain. BTW, McCain sought out Hagee's endorsement in 2006 -- and it wasn't until last month that he distanced himself from Hagee - you know, the one where "John McCain says, "Well I think it's important to note that pastor John Hagee
who has supported and endorsed my candidacy supports what I stand for and believe in."

Now, when it became politically expedient, McCain threw his pastor under the bus.

And you consider the Keating and S&L scandal mere trivia?

"The U.S. Savings and Loan crisis of the 1980s and 1990s was the failure of several savings and loan associations in the United States. The ultimate cost of the crisis is estimated to have totaled around USD$160.1 billion, about $124.6 billion of which was directly paid for by the U.S. government -- that is, the U.S. taxpayer, either directly or through charges on their savings and loan accounts-- [1], which contributed to the large budget deficits of the early 1990s. The resulting taxpayer bailout ended up being even larger than it would have been because moral hazard and adverse-selection incentives compounded the system’s losses. [2]"

And let's not forget, Neal Bush, W's brother was involved, too.

Stop whining and face the facts -- It's a Republican thing.

In full disclosure and answer to your question - yes, I did, on April 20, 2008.

http://www.peasantville.com/the_peasantville_blog/2008/04/john-mccain-dis.html

I found it to be less than courageous of McCain. He still 'admires and respects' Hagee. You know, the pastor who calls the Catholic Church a great w-hore; who believes Hitler did God's work; Hagee the the anti-Catholic, the anti-semite, the racist, the homophobe, the misogynist.

"ABC News' Mary Bruce Reports: Presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., admitted this morning that it was a mistake to accept the endorsement of Evangelical pastor Rev. John Hagee. When asked in an exclusive "This Week" interview with George Stephanopoulos if it was "a mistake to solicit and accept his endorsement", McCain replied "oh, probably, sure." Despite admitting his error, McCain made clear he's still "glad to have his endorsement."

McCain spoke out against Hagee's "condemning of the Catholic church," but added that "I admire and respect Dr. Hagee's leadership... I admire and appreciate his advocacy for the state of Israel, the independence of the state of Israel." McCain has previously admitted to soliciting Rev. Hagee's endorsement........""

Your continued innuendo and guilt by association and over-dramatizations are beyond tiresome, Adkins. Americans don't care about your old news, which was incidental to McCain's career of public service. They DO CARE about Obama's pastor preaching "G-D America!", and then doing nothing about it until it was politically expedient!

Meet my good friends Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers -- a religious terrorist and a unrepentant seditionist.

You guys are such big frauds.

You type on your computer that YOU would never ever sit in a church and listen to a minister, rabi, priest, or reverend talk about something disgusting -- oh no, no, no -- YOU all would get up, walk out, and never ever return because you all are truly such good Christians and follow the teachings of Jesus and if your minister were using controversial actions you would just leave.

BOOO SHEEEET! Not a one of you would do that!

In fact, your right winged leaders, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly and Pat Buchanan are perfect examples of people who do NOT get up and leave the church never to come back when their priests and Pope harbor pedophile priests in Rome & in the Vatican and they STILL go to church, take communion and donate to their pedophile Pope-harboring church.

The current Pope Benedict and former Pope John Paul II have been HARBORING pedophile priests FOR YEARS by ALLOWING PEDOPHILE PRIESTS TO LIVE IN THE VATICAN AND IN CATHOLIC CHURCHES AROUND ROME so those pedophile priests can avoid civil and criminal trials in the United States and other countries.

Rev. Joseph Henn, Rev. Barry Bossa, Rev. James Tully, Rev. John Baptist "J.B." Ormechea, Rev. Julian Fox, Rev. Edgar Hidalgo, Rev. Daniel Pater, Rev. Richard Mataconis
-- are just a few of the over 200 pedophile priests that both Pope John Paul II and the current Pope harbor in catholic churches and in the Vatican avoiding extradition and who are allowed to interact with the children in Rome. Google these pedophiles the Pope harbors and Catholic donations provide for.

Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly & Pat Buchanan KNOW the Pope harbors pedophile priests and have never denounced or rejected the Pope's actions NOR have they EVER left the Catholic church.

No, no, no, they continue to this day to attend Catholic masses in spite of the fact that their Pope HARBORS pedophile priests.

Meaning CLEARLY that OReilly, Sean Hannity & Pat Buchanan agree with and support the Pope's disturbing HARBORING of pedophile priests?

*** John McCain has knows for YEARS that Rod Parsley & John Hagee HATE Jews and want to invade Iran to destroy Israel & start Armageddon! Yes, ARMAGEDDON!

In spite of McCain knowing for years about their hate speeches McCain ACTIVELY & AGRESSIVELY SOUGHT THEIR ENDORSEMENT .

John McCain said, "I am very proud of the Pastor John Hagee's spiritual leadership to thousands of people." Yet, John Hagee says the Catholic church is ‘The Great Wh*re,’ an ‘apostate church,’ the ‘anti-Christ,’ and a ‘false cult system’?

You people are fooling no one. You are all religious sheep just like the rest of us -- which is WHY the Catholic church has so many, many, thousands upon thousands of people STILL attending their masses.

You don't want to talk about McCain's POOR JUDGEMENT or "history" but you are happy to discuss Obamas ..

You are all frauds!

It is so obvious that the foolish right-wingers on this blog are AFRAID to compare Obama's stellar, intelligent and superior policies to the FAILED McCain/Bush policies.

The right-wingers are up to their old tricks ... SCARE-MONGERS ... they sit around and say to themselves "ya know, Obama is so much smarter, his policies are so superior to John McCain's we better NOT let those stupid voters get wind of his policies so let's keep talking OLD NEWS on Rev. Wright."

Then come the fools on blogs ... There is NO relationship with Ayers & Obama ... sorry rightwingers that dog don't hunt. Obama was NOT implicated at all in the Rezko trial ... BFD the 2 are neighbors & Rezko sold him some property ... BFD. Sorry right-wingers that dog don't hunt.

What's wrong right-wingers ... YOU AFRAID TO TALK POLICY???? HUH????

-McCain wants upper/middle/lower class taxes to INCREASE while Obama wants to LOWER THEM.

- McCain wants to LOWER taxes on the ULTRA RICH while Obama wants to INCREASE THEIRS.

- McCain wants people in foreclosure to figure out their own problems while Obama wants the government to help them with tax credits.

- McCain was involved in the Savings & Loan crisis which cost the taxpayers BILLIONS of dollars (Keating 5) - but McCain does not want to help the millions of people who were scammed and are now in foreclosure.

- McCain wants to INVADE IRAN with false propaganda ... the same type of FALSE propaganda Bush used to illegally invade IRAQ.

- McCain wants health insurance to be the problem of the voters - those without health insurance need to figure out their own problem ... Obama and the democrats want a universal health care program (long overdue)

- McCain wants to invade countries ... while Obama wants to use diplomacy first (much like what Kennedy, Eisenhower, Reagan & Nixon did)

- McCain voted AGAINST helping Katrina victims ... while Obama helped to support Katrina victims.

McCain might have been a good soldier, along with hundreds of thousands of other good soldiers. But, McCain is NOT a good leader, does NOT have a good voting record, and
** McCain's policies will FURTHER BANKRUPT THIS COUNTRY.
** McCain's foreign policies will FURTHER ERODE AMERICA'S REPUTATION ABROAD.

You scare-mongers have your work cut out for you ... Most Americans do NOT think that Obama shares Rev. Wrights views ... BUT over 18 MILLION Americans believe in the FUTURE FOR AMERICA with Barack Obama as President.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! WHO is the scaremonger?

What a bunch of garbage...half-truths, lies, distortions about McCain.

You want to talk policy, then talk policy. But you really just want to lie about and distort McCain's fine record, while ignoring Obama's significant errors in judgment.

To: You're a Joke,

What part of McCain's policies did the 10:09 poster lie about.

You say those are lies & distorted views on McCain's policy ... really?

Well, please explain how McCain's policies above at 10:09 were distorted.

Please provide us with more detail .. IF YOU CAN ... WHICH YOU CANNOT ... WHICH IS WHY YOU HAVE NOT ...

McCain's policies, and the Republican agenda is SO out of touch with the pulse of what American's want that even Karl Rove is saying "the Republican brand is damaged."

Karl Rove & ALL right-wingers know that if the public learns, in detail, about McCain's policies McCain will get THUMPED in November -

THAT is WHY you right-wingers do NOT want to talk policy & why you only want to use SCARE-MONGER tactics about Barack.

Republicans want the rich to get richer the poor to get poorer. They want the Iraq war to continue BECAUSE ... with the Iraq War ..

... OIL COMPANIES MAKE RECORD BREAKING PROFITS ...

McCain continues to use POOR & FAILED judgement.

Will someone bring some sanity to this debate? These reactionary posts are so stupid and boring, not to mention totally misleading.

- Why did McCain vote AGAINST the GI Bill last week? It was a Bill to HELP GI's & their families & McCain voted AGAINST IT? ... The GI Bill passed with overwhelming bi-partisan support

- Why does McCain have Phil Gramm as his economic advisor when Phil Gramm is one of the major players involved in the mortgage loan scams that have led to the national FORECLOSURE mess?

- Why did McCain approve of the government to bailout plan for Bears Sterns financial problems but FAIL & refuse to help with the national foreclosure problem? McCain told a North Carolina audience that “it is not the duty of government to bail out and reward those who act irresponsibly, whether they are big banks or small borrowers.” -

- Why did John McCain pressure government officials to stop investigating Charles Keating role in the Savings & Loan Crisis (that cost taxpayers millions to bailout the Savings & Loans)? Was it because Keating & Keating's family were major donors to John McCain

- Did John McCain help Charles Keating because McCain's wife and her father had invested $359,100 in a Keating shopping center in April 1986, a year before McCain met with the regulators.

- Why did John McCain secure $14.3 million dollars in federal funds for a land acquisition program that provided a windfall for his major campaign donor, John Ogden President of SunCor Development. SunCor is an Arizona developer whose executives are major McCain campaign donors, public records show.

- Why does John McCain have super lobbyist, Charles Black, as his senior campaign advisor when Black made MILLIONS lobbying for the world's worst tyrants... like Ferdinand Marcos, who executed thousands of his own citizens in the Philippines... and Zaire's Mobuto, who publicly hanged his opponents and looted his country's vast mineral wealth... and rebel leader Jonas Savimbi, a mass murderer, who covered Angola with landmines.

- Why did McCain start singing "Bomb, bomb, bomb IRAN" last April & continue singing it in his townhall meetings even still? Does he want to start another war?

- Why did John McCain actively seek out the endorsement of Rod Parsley & John Hagee when McCain has known for YEARS & YEARS that both Parsley & Hagee want the United States to invade IRAN, destroy Israel to start Armageddon?

- What do we know about McCain's church - other than Hagee & Parsley?

- Why does McCain want to continue Bush's illegal warrantless wiretapping?

- Why does McCain continue to falsely say that Iran (a Shiite nation) was training & supplying Al-Queda (a Sunni group) when it is a fact Iran & al Qaeda are mortal enemies? - Does he NOT know who's who in the mid-east political makeup?

- Why does John McCain want to keep our troops in Iraq when the war we should be fighting is in Afghanistan?

**Anyone who doubts these things about McCain listed here ... I suggest you learn to use your google & search & you'll see that everything is true ...

America cannot afford McCain to continue with Bush's failed economic policies or foreign policies.

Hey - You're a Joke -

You made me spit milk out my nose dude!!!

I agree with you (you're a joke) McCain's policies are SCARY!!!!!! - What a shame that when McCain's policies are factually listed, the right-wingers accuse it as "scaremongering"

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA ...

You bet your A$$ McCain's policies are scary!

Yup America cannot afford McCain or McConnell.

McCain & McConnell are Bush clones.

Rather than wear blinders when reading a good many post here would be better informed if they would look at the public records of John McCain.

He is not a leader, he has no original ideas and he is more of the same old same old.

How can a man, that was a Navy Pilot and American Icon for POW's, fail to vote for a bill that would benefit veterans?

When he was finally released, as a POW, it was after that he married the Beer Barron of Arizona.

Talk about LOYALTY.

American is right . . . GOOGLE the subject and you will see the public domain that shows the confused and conservative thinking of the GOP candidate John McCain.

And for the KDP heads to now say they support Obama as a Super is absurd. The damage to Kentucky and the image of our state, has been once again, paraded before America to show how prejudice Kentucky voters are.

Obama does not need the supers from Kentucky and Obama is not FOOLISH enough to take on Hilary Clinton. The Senator from New York, after Obama's first term, will be his chief rival in re-election. Why would he want to take on excess baggage that could very well lead to an obstructionist type of government with Bill and Hilary still 'PISSED OFF" CAUSE together they could not convince enough voters- Hilary Clinton would defeat the GOP in Presidential race.

Sure our Supers want to get on the bandwagon now . . . so do many others that are now forced to support a Democratic candidate if they want to still remain in the public trough- feeding frenzy- for smoozers and Neanderthal thinking.

Facts are facts . . . but then politics in Kentucky and elsewhere . . . function purely from PERCEPTION. And some still buy that perception.

Obama will be our next President. What will happen to Hilary Clinton?

Don't worry the Clinton's always take good care of THE CLINTON'S. She will pop up again . . . seeking a POWER POSITION. Maybe that RUN should be GOVERNOR OF NEW YORK? The time is right, but maybe that is not a big enough arena or spotlight for THE CLINTON'S?

One other thought. A perfect example of politics and being a friend of THE PRESIDENT is clear . . . THE MONEY PEOPLE WANT TO BE ON THE WINNING SIDE . . . THAT IS WHY SO MANY HAVE CONTRIBUTED SO MUCH THIS LAST CAMPAIGN. Figures I read say this last Primary race, by the time it gets to the Convention . . . will have raised and spent more than ONE BILLION DOLLARS.

What a waste of money that could have helped those in dire need , to survive.

Hey, "Yup" and "Dude". Get an education. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Hilary for President in 010.

Hilary Clinton has gotten as close to be a Presidential candidate that she will ever be.

To run, again in 010 would be the final nail in the Clinton Political casket.

Sorry, to disappoint those that ardently support the CLINTON MENTALITY. . . Hilary Clinton will never be President of the United States.

BOOK IT!

She has run her best and last big, money monger campaign. And, Bill Clinton, why is that the Clinton campaign had to use INTERVENTION to prevent old Bill from his sinful ways . . . ? ? ?

Jeez as close as Bill Clinton came to being impeached, as the first President, to be forced from office, since Richard Nixon means he sure didn't appreciate the FREEDOM HE WAS GIVEN . . . BY HIS POLITICAL PALS IN CONGRESS.

Stivers, You are right again! Billions that could be used to help those in dire need.

You're also right about John McCain ... McCain is not a leader ... he is a follower of George Bush.

How can McCain have the nerve to look anyone in the eye and say he will continue the war in Iraq for decades but refuses to support a GI Bill that will help veterans?

How can McCain have the nerve to say he supports a government bailout plan for Bear Sterns and yet tell the voters it isn't the government's job to help them out of foreclosure.

How can McCain look Louisianna voters in the eyes when he voted against allowing up to 52 weeks of unemployment benefits to people affected by the hurricane.

How can McCain look working families in the eyes and ask for their votes when HE voted on Bills that cut the American workforce, sent our jobs overseas, and gives tax breaks to companies that send our jobs overseas?

McCains voting record HURTS the hard working families of America:
- McCain Supported President Bush’s Outsourcing Efforts. McCain voted to allow overseas outsourcing of government contracts after President Bush’s economic advisers released a report saying America should outsource its jobs. [S.1637, Vote #32, 3/4/04]

- McCain Voted Against Limiting Tax Breaks to Companies That Re-Import Foreign Manufactured Goods. He voted against a bill to tax multinational companies on income from foreign factories when goods are shipped back to the United States and to require companies to notify employees and give a reason before they move their jobs overseas. [S.1637, Vote #83, 5/5/04]

- McCain Supported Waiving and Weakening Buy American Laws. McCain voted to allow the Secretary of Defense to waive Buy American laws for defense systems and place our defense manufacturing industry in jeopardy. He also voted to exempt defense goods from six European countries from Buy American requirements that traditionally have required most military equipment and defense systems to be manufactured in the United States. [S. 2400, Vote #135, 6/22/04; S. 1050, Vote #191, 5/21/03]

- McCain Voted to Allow Unsafe Foreign Trucks on U.S. Roads. McCain voted against an amendment to prohibit Mexican trucks from operating beyond a limited border zone because they are not held to the same safety standards as U.S. trucks. [H.R. 2299, Vote #252, 7/26/01]

- McCain Abstained from Voting to Protect Steel Jobs. McCain abstained from a vote to filibuster a bill to protect steelworker jobs from illegal dumping after 10,000 steelworkers lost their jobs. [H.R. 975, Vote #178, 6/22/99]

- McCain Voted Against Providing Health Insurance for Employees and Retirees of Bankrupt Steel Companies. McCain voted against a measure that provided temporary health insurance assistance to retirees of bankrupt steel companies. [S.Amdt. 3433, Vote #117, 5/21/02]

- McCain Supported Normalizing Trade Relations with China. He voted for normalizing trade relations with China, allowing China to enter the World Trade Organization despite an ongoing history of human rights and workers’ rights violations. [H.R. 4444, Vote #251, 9/19/00]

- Every State Has Suffered Job Loss Since China Entered the WTO. Since China entered the World Trade Organization in 2001, every state and the District of Columbia have suff ered China-related job displacement totaling 1.8 million lost jobs. [“Costly Trade with China,” Economy Policy Institute, 10/9/07]

- Rising Chinese Trade Deficits Resulted in 2.1 Million Displaced Jobs. “Th e rise in the U.S. trade deficit with China between 1997 and 2006 has displaced production that could have supported 2,166,000…between 1997 and 2001, trade deficits displaced an average of 101,000 jobs per year…since China entered the WTO in 2001, job loss has increased to an average of 353,000 per year. U.S. jobs.” [“Costly Trade with China,” Economy Policy Institute, 10/9/07]

Hey great list of facts about McCain's SCARY voting record ... SCARY for working families in America that is ...

Yup, I said it once I'll say it again, "McCain's policies are SCARY!!!!!!"

... and ...

when McCain's policies are listed, even right-winger McConnell lovers call the list "scaremongering."

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

JAS:
Sorry, I left out a few more of McCain's voting record that HURTS American families.

Here's what McCain said in 1999; when he was running for President ... back then ... again ...

McCain “I Would Negotiate a Free Trade Agreement with Almost Any Country.” “If I were president, I would negotiate a free trade agreement with almost any country willing to negotiate fairly with us.” [Speech to the National Press Club, 5/20/99]

McCain's VOTING RECORD that HURTS American Families continued:

- McCain Voted for the Most Devastating Trade Agreement in Our History, NAFTA.McCain voted for NAFTA in 1993 and has been a steadfast supporter for the trade agreement ever since. [H.R. 3450, Vote #395, 11/20/93]

- McCain Voted for Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA). McCain voted for the Central American Free Trade Agreement. CAFTA cuts tariff s among the United States, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Is excessive protections for multinational corporations will undermine the ability of governments to protect public health, strong communities and the environment. [S. 1307, Vote #170, 6/30/05]

- McCain Has Voted for Every Other Bad Trade Agreement That Has Come Up. McCain votes in support of any and all trade agreements regardless of their negative impacts on U.S. workers. He voted for trade agreements with Oman, Singapore, Chile and Morocco, among others, as well as for Fast Track bills to make it easier for the president to enact trade agreements without strong worker protections. [S. 33569, Vote #190, 6/29/06; H.R. 2739, Vote #318, 7/31/03; H.R. 2738, Vote #319, 7/31/03; H.R. 434, Vote #353, 11/3/99; H.R. 3009, Vote #115, 5/16/02, Vote #117, 5/21/02, Vote #207, 8/1/02; S. 1269, Vote #292, 11/4/97]

** NAFTA Resulted in a Loss of More Than a Million Jobs. From 1993 through 2004, the United States lost 1,015,290 jobs due to NAFTA. [Robert E. Scott and David Ratner, “NAFTA’s Cautionary Tale—Recent history suggests CAFTA could lead to further U.S. job displacement,” Economic Policy Institute, 7/20/05]

Now, how many U.S. jobs have been sent overseas due to POOR JUDGMENT on free trade? MILLIONS!

Do you know what McCain calls people who want to keep U.S. Jobs in America? He calls them "Protectionists." As if wanting to protect and keep U.S. jobs IN America is a bad thing?

Sen McCain, George Bush & Sen. McConnell, YOU BET I AM A PROTECTIONIST!!!! STOP SENDING OUR JOBS OVERSEAS & STOP GIVING TAX BREAKS TO COMPANIES THAT SEND OUR JOBS OVERSEAS!

... better yet, lets just vote these guys OUT OF OFFICE!

HOLY COW!!!

McCain votes AGAINST GI Bill and has an ongoing record of voting AGAINST American families.

What kind of Patriot/American is this clown?

McCain may have been a American patriot 40 years ago when he was in Vietnam but he has NOT been an American Patriot for the last 10 or 15 years.

With Patriotism like McCain's who needs enemies?

The post about lopsided trade agreements is right. This type of LOW WAGE JOB RECRUITING IS TAKING AWAY THE MIDDLE CLASS IN AMERICA.

As long as we allow the Washington Lobby to dictate to Congress, (dictate with some special privileges awarded) the middle class jobs in the USA will not return.

And, even when manufactured in third world counties . . . the amount of the tariff's on the goods, has been so low that the windfall from the tarrif's have meant little to help retraIn workers who lost a job to China, Mexico, El Salvidor, etc, etc. . . China is the worlds economic leader now . . .and with Fortune 500 money and government tax abatements.

Why in the hell would our Congress allow the FEDS-to allow CHINA - to have such a large investment in USA GOVERNMENT BONDS?

Can you image the size of a USA recession if CHINA - ONE DAY sent a message to the Treasury that China would like the money back they invested in our bonds.

IMO, the USA could not buy enough ink for the Federal Government,to print more money to pay back the Billions China has hedged as security for USA cooperation.

Who is the FOOL HERE?

JAS you are right! The Feds have allowed China to grow to the point where they are the economic powerhouse of the world ... leaving the USA in the dust.

The ultra wealthy investors, like Cindy McCain, Bush, Cheney, McConnell have been investing in the Chinese stock market for years.

In order for their investments to pay off the Fed had no choice but to help the Yen be stronger than the dollar.

How do you like these same clowns sending our defense contracts OUT OF AMERICAN workforce? How safe is America when our smart bombs are being made in China? Yes, that's right, George Bush allowed the Chinese goverment to MOVE the plant that manufacturers the magnets for our smart bombs out America to CHINA!!!

Smart bombs are bombs that can pinpoint a target, go through a bunker & kill the target.

Our drugs are being made in China.

McCain, Bush & McConnell should be run out of Washington.

My, the Obama crowd must really be scared. It is amazing to see such hysteria to try to sway public perception and opinion.

Take the following statement:

"The ultra wealthy investors, like Cindy McCain, Bush, Cheney, McConnell have been investing in the Chinese stock market for years.

In order for their investments to pay off the Fed had no choice but to help the Yen be stronger than the dollar." Those statements are simply ridiculous. Does that include John Kerry, John Edwards, the Clinton's, and the long list of wealthy Democrat lawyers?

And take this one: "Sen McCain, George Bush & Sen. McConnell, YOU BET I AM A PROTECTIONIST!!!! STOP SENDING OUR JOBS OVERSEAS & STOP GIVING TAX BREAKS TO COMPANIES THAT SEND OUR JOBS OVERSEAS!" You can thank Bill Clinton for that. But frankly, the real answer to that issue in a global economy is much more complex. We need to be tougher negotiators, but we cannot isolate ourselves from the world.

Folks, if you want to be taken seriously, make statements that show some rational thought and objectivity. Otherwise, you really look foolish.

To: Such hysteria:

I'm thinking you don't know how to read. The above posts show Bill number and the dates McCain's votes were recorded.

With the exception of NAFTA - the other Bills along with the dates McCain's vote was recorded ... George Bush was President. (Only a republican would blame Bill Clinton for Bush's failed economic policies.)

John McCain is a traitor to the American workforce and his voting record proves it.

NAFTA was bad enough. But, George Bush, with the help of John McCain & Mitch McConnell have outsourced MILLIONS of American's jobs and have cost the American economy the benefits of keeping those jobs in America.

I suggest you re-read the posts above that describe the Bills and reflect the dates McCain voted ... Bush was President not Bill Clinton

John McCain is what you call an EX-patriot.

It's clear through McCain's voting record that he turned his back on Americans a LONG, LONG, LONG time ago.

McCain's track record clearly demonstrates a lack of commitment to investing in the American economy.

In 2003, Sen. McCain authored an Amendment allowing the Department of Defense to purchase American military equipment from FOREIGN companies. [Vote 191, 5/21/03]

The Amendment passed along party lines.

March 2008, John McCain defended the Air Force decision to overlook Wichita-based Boeing Co. for a $35 billion contract to build airborne refueling planes and giving the American Defense Contract to a European Company instead.

McCain told a Texas group that he "would not work to overturn the decision and saying that military decisions should not be about creating jobs." [McCain Town Hall Meeting, Waco TX, 3/3/08; AP, 3/3/08]

The McCain Amendment laid the groundwork for the Air Force’s decision to outsource the production of refueling tankers for the American military

In more than one nationally televised debate, we’ve heard John McCain admit he doesn’t understand the economy. Now he has made it abundantly clear that, if President, he would be supportive of outsourcing of American jobs, even at a time when our families and our nation’s economy are hurting the most.

McCain does NOT care if American's lose jobs. In fact, McCain has not cared about American's retaining jobs since at least 1999.

In 1999 McCain said, “I Would Negotiate a Free Trade Agreement with Almost Any Country.” “If I were president, I would negotiate a free trade agreement with almost any country willing to negotiate fairly with us.” [Speech to the National Press Club, 5/20/99]

McCain’s refusal to question the Air Force’s decision of outsourcing our military overseas, gives us a glimpse into the kind of economic policy we can expect from a McCain presidency.

As I say, McCain's track record clearly demonstrates a lack of commitment to investing in the American economy.

McCain's track record shows that McCain does not support "We the people of the United States" and has become an EX-patriot .... or traitor, if you will.

Hundreds of elected officials nationwide are rallying against the decision to outsource our military defense overseas. But Senator McCain refuses to work to overturn the decision and says, it's not the job of the military to create jobs!

Since when is it NOT the job of the military to create jobs. Didn't the military create jobs during WWI and WWII? Didn't the military create jobs during the Korean War? The Vietnam War?

McCain is content with 44,000 of our jobs and $40 billion of our tax dollars going overseas.

Let us not forget in 2003 Bush led outsourcing of our smart bomb from an Indiana plant to China. Again, John McCain and other Republicans on the Hill supported our military defense being outsourced to China.

You silly boys think this campaign is going to be about issues. There will be one issue in this race. Read into that what you will.

I was not aware the DOD outsourced work to China! If there is an article on this would you post it. A terrible, terrible, dangerous precedent.

Jim Anderson Stivers

I don't know what the F*** everyone is talking about, I'm bringin' it back and that's all that matters!

JAS,

The link below is one of many August 2003 articles illustrating where George W. Bush approved the "smart bomb" technology plant to move from Indiana to China. It describes the democrats in Congress trying to thwart the move but Bush refused to back down and allowed the DOD to give their smart bomb technology to China, allow China to manufacture those smart bomb magnets for the DOD.
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=34037

Keep in mind, that same year, 2003,McCain authored an Amendment allowing the Department of Defense to purchase American military equipment from FOREIGN companies. [Vote 191, 5/21/03]

Can anyone say "John McCain has BAD judgment with foreign policy?"

In May McCain authors an Amendment to purchase Dept. Of Defense weapons from foreign companies and 3 months later George Bush gives our technology & manufacturing to China. Dumb move boys.

Also in that same year, 2003, Iran suddenly bought "Chinese missiles." China denies selling the missiles to Iran and says Japan sold Iran those missiles.

Another fact is that on October 31, 2004 - China signed a $70 billion oil and natural gas agreement with Iran, which is China's biggest energy deal with the No. 2 OPEC producer.
http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/english/doc/2004-10/31/content_387140.htm

It was reported that "China will buy 250 million tons of liquefied natural gas over 30 years from Iran."

"Iran is also committed to export 150,000 barrels per day of crude oil to China for 25 years at market prices after commissioning of the field."

"Iran's oil Minister said Iran is China's biggest oil supplier and wants to be its long-term business partner."

"Official figures show that China imported 226 million tons of oil in2003, about 13 percent of which coming from Iran."

JAS,

Nice, China has not only our smart bomb technology that we gave them thanks to Bush & McCain's Amendment - but China also manufactures said bombs.

Low and behold in August 2007 Iran has acquired their own "smart bomb" and they threaten to use said "smart bomb" against their enemies.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2007-08-26-iranbomb_N.htm
http://www.reuters.com/news/video/videoStory?videoId=64776

Bush, McCain, McConnell & other Bushies have show such anti-patriotism that their Amendments and Bills have given rise to China & Iran becoming quite cozy. Now that China became a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO), thanks to McCain's vote in 2000, CNN reported this year, 2008, that China would not sanction Iran over their uranium enrichment and missile development programs and that "China, which has extensive business links to Iran, has repeatedly opposed a new U.N. resolution, arguing that negotiation rather than economic pressure was the best way to engage Tehran."
http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/01/17/us.iran/index.html

Someone needs to tell John McCain it is foolish, irresponsible and otherwise stupid to outsource our military defense weapons and military defense contracts.

Someone needs to tell McCain that HIS voting record has weakened our power in the world and has empowered our enemies.

... Maybe McCain knows how stupid it is to outsource our military ... Maybe John McCain is just a sell-out on our military like he his track record showing he is a traitor of the American working families.

Also for JAS

I was not aware of the degree of the DOD involvement with CHINA. If not already, that should be criminal.

To allow a COMMUNIST COUNTRY, in case you forgot- CHINA IS THE LEADER OF THE BIG JOE MIND SET IN ASIA.

China is building a huge military force with our technology and of course with the mass population has an army ready to go with One Million soldiers.

China also owns IBM. I am confident CHINA bought IBM to enhance their guidance system for missiles.

Boy are our feds dumb.

As if the money and the market were not a large enough concern with China but now China can stand tall with their new missiles and guidance system and (maybe our smart bomb)?

This is just insane and laws should be passed by Congress to prevent this kind of authority. But, with the money market so HOT IN CHINA this 'COZY RELATIONSHIP' with China is not likely to end under the Bush Administration.

I would like to know how Barrack Obama views these conditions, wouldn't you.

Jim Anderson Stivers

This is the deal on IBM, now LENOVO.
And the part about PC work, is just propaganda to make it look like China is more interested in the CONSUMER MARKET when in actuality they are using THIS FORMER BLUE RIBBON COMPANY TO build MISSILE TECHNOLOGY.

Why is it our CIA can't, won't see this?

JAS IN FRANKFORT

http://www.lenovo.com/lenovo/us/en/

THIS IS THE WEB PAGE.

If there exist- any questions- about the power of the money now held by CHINA- HERE is the substance. This all done by FORTUNE 500.
Their only interest is profit . . . and Return On Investment to stockholders . .. nothing about NATIONAL SECURITY.

Not only is our FOREIGN POLICY DISTORTED BUT USA money seems to be the largest WHORES IN THE SELLING OFF OF AMERICAN BUSINESS.

JAS IN FRANKFORT

YES, THIS IS A CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER.

Foreign direct investment (FDI) and research and development (R&D)-related activity by U.S.-owned companies in mainland China (henceforth China) expanded substantially during the 1990s, especially in the information technology sector.[1] U.S. affiliates in China were among the most R&D-intensive overseas affiliates in 2000, making China the eleventh largest host of U.S. R&D expenditures overseas, up from the number 30 spot in 1994. Investment by U.S. companies through majority-owned affiliates grew, while the frequency of new industrial R&D alliances dropped. However, U.S. companies and other organizations still participate in more industrial R&D alliances with Chinese partners than do entities from other investing countries.

During the 1990s China initiated a number of economic and science and technology policies designed to foster economic growth, including steps for attracting foreign investment (OECD 2002; UNCTAD 2001). In the same period, multinational corporations (MNCs) from advanced economies began increasing technology-related activities abroad in a number of emerging markets, including China, to exploit local capabilities, adapt technology for local markets or regulations, and reduce costs and risks through collaboration with international research and development (R&D) partners.

In 2004 John McCain authored, voted for (and it passed) an Amendment That Allows Defense Contracts to be Awarded To Foreign Companies. The amendment passed 54-46. [S 2400, Vote #135 , 6/22/04]

How about that ... John McCain wants our military weapons to be outsourced.

Why does John McCain want to outsource our National Defense???? That's not just stupid, it's OUTRAGEOUS.

Then in 2008, McCain refuses to object to the Air Force decision to award a $35 BILLION dollar contract to the French. Kansas based Boeing was overlooked and the contract was given to

Wait, there's more ... The Air Force awarded the Billion dollar Air Force tanker contract to Northrop/EADS of France. (European Aeronautic Defense and Space Co - EADS)

Here's the kicker - McCain hired lobbyist John Green in his Presidential campaign.

Northrop/EADS has paid Green’s Lobbying Firm $1,080,000 since 2003. Accordign to the Senate Lobbying Disclosure Reports, Green's firm was lobbying on behalf of Northrop/EADS on the Air Force fuel tanker contract. [Senate Lobbying Disclosure Reports; Seattle Post-Intelligencer, 3/4/08 ]

Another McCain Campaign employee (paid) is Tom Loeffler whose Lobby firm is The Loeffler Group. EADS paid the Tom Loeffler $220,000.00 to lobby Congress on behalf of EADS to get the Billion dollar contract. See Senate Lobbying Disclosure Reports.

Oh, McCain's campaign has more, Susan Nelson is also a lobbyist for EADS. EADS paid Nelson $220,000.00 to lobby Congress on behalf of EADS to get the Billion dollar contract. - See Senate Lobbying Disclosure Reports.

*** McCain's 2004 Amendment That Allows Defense Contracts to be Awarded To Foreign Companies says that the Secretary of Defense can waive the application of any domestic source [USA mnfc] requirements with respect to items that are grown, reprocessed, reused, produced or manufactured in foreign countries that have a “declaration of principles” with the United States.

And we all thought the U.S. Military meant United States Military.

With people like John McCain - who needs enemies.

JAS - The Senate Bills & Amendments that allow the Department of Defense to overlook US Companies & outsource our military secrets to foreign companies, like China, France etc. were ALL proposed since George Bush took office and they were ALL supported by the FULL Republican's in Congress.

The term, "Bush & Republicans have made our enemies stronger" is an understatement.

The Amendments AUTHORED - since the year 2000 - by John McCain have not only made our enemies stronger - McCain's Amendments have given our enemies OUR WEAPONS TECHNOLOGY & OUR MILITARY JOBS.

Can the United States really "trust" the weapons that are made from foreign countries? Can the United States "trust" that those weapons made in foreign countries won't be plagued with (intentional) DEFECTS?

I swear, I think John McCain is a traitor of the military.

John McCain is showing his complete IGNORANCE with military affairs.

So much for McCain's experience ...

What has McCain's "experience" done for this country? McCain's judgment? Judgment? McCain's judgment is PITIFUL.

McCain shows he does NOT support the GI Bill but McCain support the Iraq War going on for years & years & years. And McCain's experience shows he supports outsourcing our military technology & jobs. - Bad judgment McCain!

Experience? Experience? Look George Bush has experience & he has ruined this country's economy and reputation. John McCain would offer the same FEEBLE experience Bush has shown.

America can truly NOT "afford" John McCain's so-called experience or McCain's pitiful, pathetic judgment.
