Beshear's casino plan to specify locations, spending

Gov. Steve Beshear met briefly with House Democrats on Wednesday to lay out in broad strokes his constitutional amendment that would allow casino gambling.

Beshear told them he would offer companion legislation with that amendment to implement the proposal. The amendment itself would lay out five to six general areas, such as education and health care, where casino tax proceeds could be spent by lawmakers, said Rep. Jim Wayne, D-Louisville.

And Beshear said the measure will spell out how where casinos would be located, said Rep. Kathy Stein, D-Lexington.

Lawmakers asked just one question: whether the legislation will spell out the number of casino locations. Beshear answered that it would, said Rep. Tim Firkins, D-Louisville, but the governor didn't add -- nor did the lawmakers follow up to ask -- how many there will be.

More to come.

Yea! Score another one for the Democrats in the House beating out the Republicans on HB 108 and even 422. Now Jonathan Miller, who likes to say he is for “good government,” “openess,” and “transparency” will be allowed to continue to operate under the cover of darkness. He is not going to have to post our taxpayer checkbook on the internet for us all to see. Beshear is really proud and happy too, because he shares Jonathan’s values!
I am trying to figure something out here, can some of you Democrats please tell me what the Democratic Party Stands for? I am being serious. What are the values of your Party? The main value I am seeing are how “We take care of our own” ----“our own” being Democrats, not Kentuckians!
