Meade challenges Stumbo for nomination

Attorney General Greg Stumbo has some competition for the Democratic Party's nomination to replace state Rep. Brandon Spencer, D-Prestonsburg, who abruptly announced his resignation this week.

Charles "Chuck" Meade, who has previously held the 95th House District seat, issued a statement today asking party officials in Floyd County to place him on the ballot for a special election to replace Spencer.

Regardless of their decision, Meade said he plans to continue campaigning for the seat, which will be up for election again in the May 2008 primary.

"I am in it and I am in it to win," Meade said.

Stumbo announced yesterday that he wants the seat, which he held for more than two decades before becoming Attorney General in 2004.

"I would like the people of Floyd County to know that Spencer and Stumbo’s decisions have in no way affected my decisions to run for the office," Meade said.

Meade runs a wholesale company in Allen.

Republicans all across the state should get behind Meade. It's a district that Republicans can't win, but here is our best bet to get rid of Greg Stumbo once and for all!!!!!

Wait.

"Effected" his decisions?

What?

The spelling police are everywhere. Get a life.

Effected? LOL They are all retards in Pikeville. Look at the people they vote for.

Hello

7:04, Nice comment, very mature and insightful. However this refers to the 95 district which is in Floyd County not Pike County. Those living in glass houses tend to show their a$$ when they bend over.

Meade gets an "F"... not for spelling (really, who gives a hoot 5:47), but for political sense. Stumbo will beat him like a drum.

Good for Meade -- he was Stumbo's handpicked successor when Stumbo took the AG's position. Stumbo couldn't stand being out of politics and he knew full well that Meade was going to run but he got in the race anyway and cooked up a backroom deal to be able to run in May as an incumbent.

I wouldn't pour water (from any source, LOL) on Stumbo if he was on fire.

Good Luck... not a chance for Meade.

Anyone in Floyd County would have a good chance of beating Meade.. think about that... but hey... Meade won't run.

Meade is running a poll, it looks like he would get beat 35 points if he runs against Stumbo. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that he won't run.
