Beshear recommends Miller for party chairman
JENNIFER MOORE RECOMMENDED FOR VICE CHAIR
Democratic nominee for governor Steve Beshear will recommend that former rival and State Treasurer Jonathan Miller become chairman of the Kentucky Democratic Party.
Speaking during an afternoon rally at the party's Frankfort headquarters, Beshear said Louisville lawyer Jennifer Moore is his pick for vice chairman of the party.
The state central committee must approve Beshear's recommendations at a meeting next week.
Party chairman Jerry Lundergan has said he will offer his resignation at next week's meeting.
Miller was one of seven Democrats who ran for governor in this year's primary. He dropped out of the race earlier this month and endorsed Beshear.

These are absolutely the right choices. Go Beshear/Mongiardo!

Interesting. Very interesting.

Beshear picking Miller for KDP Chair has compelled me to change my Beshear as favorite election odds from 7/5 to 8/5. Why make it easier for Republicans to yell LIBERAL LIBERAL LIBERAL?? Golden Triangle Ticket as a winner? Aaand they're off.

New buzz from today's event is that Mark Nickolas and Chantel McCormick are leaving Kentucky. She was there and said many good-byes. What does that mean for bluegrassreport.org?
Posted by: | May 24, 2007 at 04:38 PM
1) Explain why you think Miller is so liberal. I have yet to get a decent response, and I will cling to my assumption that it only has to do with his Harvard degree and non-redneck behavior and speech.
2) Dan Mongiardo is from eastern Kentucky, not the Golden Triangle.
Speaking of Lite Gov candidates, nobody seems to be discussing the detrimental effect Robbie Rudolph is going to have on Fletcher's chances. Boy that ticket is just heaped in baggage.

Jonathan Miller and Jennifer Moore are just what the Dem Party needs. Two fresh honest people who people can believe. I am thrilled with this selection.

4:39 As one who believes LBJ made the difference for JFK, I can't say the bottom half of executive tickets can't make a difference, so let's just say it's rare. However, Brer Jones, Tracy Farmer, Steve Beshear, Ben Chandler, Jonathan Miller et al sounds pretty Golden Triangly to me no matter how many times Steve stands under a Dawson Springs sign. As for Miller being liberal (outside of his nonredneckiness) surely you jest?
Posted by: Trackmasterscoob | May 24, 2007 at 06:07 PM
Umm...anyone notice that Miller is not the bottom half of the ticket? Mongiardo is from Hazard....which is about as "non-golden triangle" as you get.
Posted by: Big Sandy | May 24, 2007 at 07:22 PM
1) If Mongiardo were not Beshear's running mate, he would not be the nominee. I don't think anyone can deny that. The bottom half does often, not rarely, make a difference. Don't think for a second Rudolph's skeletons won't be exposed.
2) Anyone who is called upon to serve in positions of power in this state is going to end up living and working in the Golden Triangle, that is just a fact. I love the place and I do not wish to cast it into hell like some of you.
3) Fire away. Tell me what makes Jonathan Miller a "liberal." I will gladly await your explanation.

Jonathan Miller spent over a million bucks, and had he stayed in until election day, may very well have polled less than Gatewood, so let's give the guy credit for cutting a good deal with bad cards. As for Miller's liberalism, maybe you should take that up with all those Kentucky non-progressive Dems who were not buying his pitch. BTW How would casinos as economic development fit into Miller's Sunday School Book of Virtues?
Posted by: Trackmasterscoob | May 24, 2007 at 08:05 PM
Was the job offered to Steve Henry first or is that speculation??
Posted by: | May 24, 2007 at 08:12 PM
That is bogus. Steve Henry's political career is dead as a doornail. Come on, he had to comb through the entire state just to find a running mate. The poor woman who gave in and joined the ticket didn't even finish college. Then he blamed his loss on the people of Jefferson County. What a loser.
Posted by: | May 24, 2007 at 08:21 PM
Still nothing at all to back up those liberal claims about Miller, I see. Add to that pile a totally unsubstantiated claim about how Miller would have finished in the election. Wow. Sounds like just the kind of baseless, ignorant smoke-and-mirrors desperation the Democrats turned out in record numbers to reject and precisely what has and will continue to make Fletcher a one termer and put another 30 years between November and the next Republican goveernor.
Posted by: | May 24, 2007 at 08:22 PM
The Republicans are the one who want to spend all their time and power making everything illegal. F*cking commies.
Posted by: | May 24, 2007 at 08:28 PM
I must say that the Democrats are back in business in Frankfort! All hale to the No.1 Party! It's time for Ernie to take his non-governing a** back to his house on the River!!!!!!
Posted by: | May 24, 2007 at 08:31 PM
Since Miller pulled out on election eve, all is speculative about how he would have finished now isn't it 8:22? As for his liberalism, by his donors and his nanny state moralism shall he be known. BTW By the numbers what are the "endorsements" of Lunsford or Henry or Richards worth? How about a Cabinet position for Gatewood?
Posted by: Trackmasterscoob | May 24, 2007 at 08:39 PM
Its about time...there short and sweet..
Posted by: ALT | May 24, 2007 at 08:45 PM
I'll take Miller's donors and morals over Fletcher's (secret) donors and (non-existant) morals ANY day.
Posted by: | May 24, 2007 at 08:46 PM
I like having Miller take over as Kentucky Dem Party Chair. As for him being "Liberal", c'mon folks, this IS the Democratic Party of this great Commonwealth and we're debating his "Liberalness"?
Anyhoot, congrats Jon, you're gonna do fine.

Miller and Moore are great picks, But Beshear please, please, please, put some good old regular down home folks in there somewhere. I am not cutting on the new Chair and V.C. but they just will not relate to farmers ,factory workers, flatlanders, miners and Mountain folks. We need Leadership but we need people who can relate to folks who work every day. Plus both of these folks are lawyers. put in some common sense.

HA HA HA... I remember just a few weeks ago someone posted that Beshear broke election laws, KRS 119.205 to be exact, which is a Class D felony, by offering Miller a job in exchange for his vote.
At that time all those BGR mice were saying in their squeaky voices, "Oh Jonathan did not accept a job." and ... "oh Jonathan told the HL he was not offered anything."
OK....
Well, looks like Jonathan Miller was LESS THAN HONEST with the HL. Looks like the BGR blind mice were ... blind to reality.
Beshear said he'd do his "dead level best" to GIVE Miller a job moments after Miller told the world his vote would go to Beshear and less than 48 hours after the Primary, Miller accepted the job?
Ok, GOT IT. So that's Beshear's tacktics. Just another corrupt politician. How many merit jobs will be lost to HIS political friends?

I am greatly concerned about the vote in november in west ky with miller being so liberal on issues. we have got to pull west ky this time and not give it to ernie again.

Miller will certainly cost the democrats votes all across the state for more than one reason. There are so many different reasons that different people do not trust Jonathan Miller. When you add all those reasons together there will end up being a percentage of people that won't vote Beshear because of Miller. The only question is, will that percentage of people who refuse to vote for Beshear/Miller/Nickolas/Mongiardo be what swings the job back to Fletcher in the fall.
Just bec. Nickolas is leaving town does not get rid of the smell that Jonathan Miller is embedded with. After all, with the internet Nickolas will still be able to write his slander and spread his lies.

Here's the lesson I learned.
Ther Herald-Leader was, and continues to be, NOT INTERESTED in reporting the truth about the Fletcher administration and the origin of the personnel investigation. They continue to be NOT INTERESTED in reporting news that would properly call the impartiality of the grand jury into legitimate question. They seemed interested in manufacturing news stories during the campaign to discredit Fletcher and present Anne Northup in the best possible light.
You reporters aren't lazy, although Alessi is still quite wet behind the ears and obviously easily manipulated. Do some checking. Go to the courthouse and make some open records requests. Read some of the insiders' blogs where facts are posted. Allow the Fletcher administration a chance to rebut what has been said and use the information they provide you. Offer some scrutiny to people like Doug Doerting and Dan Druen and Rachel Auxier. Don't give them a free pass. Do some digging on Steve Beshear in a measure comparable to what's been done on Ernie Fletcher.
In short, if you are going to claim objectivity, BE OBJECTIVE! Report both sides and don't be afraid to go after Fletcher's detractors the same way you have gone after Fletcher.

9:39 - The HL reporters have done research. Their research begins & ends with talking to Mark Nickolas.
The HL reporters, especially Stamper & Alessi are not objective reporters and I don't think they want to be.
They are quick to bury stories so readers can't read the truth but just as quick to report half baked stories, or stories with their only source being Mark Nickolas.
In fact, their main source, Nickolas, is protected by these people. They are always so quick to mention the lawsuits Nickolas files and the legal complaints Nickolas files but have yet to write the TRUTH that Nickolas is being sued in Jefferson County Courts by Anthony Huff & Sheri Huff for SLANDER.
Nickolas is skipping town with that pending lawsuit -- HL you gonna report the status on that. Are you going to call Huff's lawyer to find out if they know Nickolas is skipping town with the pending lawsuit? You gonna call Mr. Arnold of Buck Pond Farms to see if he knows Nickolas is skipping town before paying his debt to Arnold? You gonna call the State Revenue to see if they know he is skipping town?
Nope, these guys aren't trying to be real reporters. They just don't know how and don't care to learn.
