Beshear picks up support from labor

FRANKFORT — Two major labor groups --the Kentucky State Building and Construction Trades Council and the United Mine Workers of America -- are endorsing Democrat Steve Beshear for governor and his running mate, state Sen. Daniel Mongiardo, for lieutenant governor.

The council stayed neutral in this spring's primary election.  Beshear and Mongiardo will face Republican Gov. Ernie Fletcher and his running mate, Robbie Rudolph,  in the Nov. 6 general election.

Larry Roberts, state director of the council, said in a statement, “ "Steve Beshear's and Dr. Dan Mongiardo's commitment to Kentucky's working families is rock solid.  Equally important, they offer our Commonwealth a fresh start with strong, competent, honest leadership, the type of change we all desperately need following the weak and corrupt administration of Ernie Fletcher."

The council is made up of 15 building and construction trades unions throughout Kentucky consisting of more than 25,000 members.

UMWA International President Cecil Roberts said, “Time and time again, Steve Beshear has proven himself a steadfast friend of the working families of Kentucky.”
